How to Calculate PPF Maturity Amount

  1. Annual Investment: Enter the amount you plan to invest each year (₹500 – ₹1,50,000).
  2. Interest Rate: Current PPF rate is 7.1% p.a. (government-declared quarterly).
  3. Tenure: PPF has a fixed 15-year tenure (extendable in 5-year blocks).
  4. Click Calculate: See your year-wise PPF balance and final maturity amount.

PPF Interest Calculation: Interest is calculated monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and last day of each month, but credited annually on 31st March.

Key Rule: To maximize interest, always deposit before the 5th of April each year.

Example: ₹1,50,000/year for 15 years at 7.1% p.a.:

Total Invested = ₹22,50,000 | Maturity Amount ≈ ₹40,68,209

Tax-Free Interest Earned ≈ ₹18,18,209

Why PPF is the Best Tax-Saving Investment for Indians

PPF enjoys the unique EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) tax status — making it one of the most tax-efficient investments in India:

  • Exempt on Investment: Up to ₹1.5 lakh/year qualifies for deduction under Section 80C.
  • Exempt on Interest: Annual interest earned is completely tax-free.
  • Exempt on Maturity: The entire maturity amount is tax-free — no capital gains tax.
  • Government Guarantee: Zero default risk — backed by the Government of India.
  • Loan Facility: Loans available from PPF from 3rd to 6th year (up to 25% of balance).
  • Partial Withdrawal: Partial withdrawals allowed from the 7th year onwards.
